Import PDF files directly into OpenOffice 3.0

13 Oct 2008 | | 2 Comments

If you’ve thrown away the original source for your PDF file — or just plain never had it to begin with, then you’ll probably want to take a look at Sun’s PDF Import Extension for OpenOffice 3.0.

It works by allowing the file to be imported into Draw and Impress — this allows for modest modifications to be made such as small text updates like dates, numbers, etc…

Obviously, if you want to make big-time changes — as always, you’re best to return to the source, but this is definitely worth a look-in.

It’s a beta feature only, and requires the OpenOffice 3.0 beta 2+ to work….  You can read me and download a copy from the OpenOffice extensions area at OpenOffice.org.

    Hello,

Great feature, but, as stupid as it seems, I was unable to actually USE it (after installed it succesfully).

How to import a pdf file into OOo, step by step ?

The documentation on the extension’s website contains a lot of development information, but no „user manual” :-(

    Razvan,

I also looked for an ‘import’ button…
Use the File|Open… dialog to open PDFs
