Patch issued to address PDF vulnerability in BlackBerry Attachment Service

14 Jan 2009 | | No Comment

RIM have corrected a vulnerability which affects some of those using the BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Professional software, according to Nancy Gohring of IDG.net.

The update, released on Monday, fixes multiple vulnerabilities in the way that the BlackBerry Attachment Service handles certain PDF (Portable Document Format) files. The attachment service, a component of the BlackBerry Enterprise Service, displays e-mail attachments such as PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and HTML files for BlackBerry users.

Specifically, it allows a hacker to send an email message with a PDF attachment, which can cause either memory corruption or to launch code on the host computer running the BlackBerry Attachment Service.
