New Wikipedia website will enable users to create PDFs

29 Mar 2010 | | No Comment

The Wikipedia Foundation websites will get a makeover in April 2010 to improve the user experience as well as the addition of new services such as facility to convert encyclopaedic content to PDF and Printed Book format.

The new layout for Wikipedia has been in development since January 2009 and the existing pages will be migrated to the layout starting the first week of April. The new website will allow visitors and users to create PDFs and Printed Book format from Wikipedia articles. In the beginning, this service will be available only for the English websites but will be extended to other languages during later stages. This service for conversion to PDF and Printed Book format was previously limited to ‘logged-in’ users only and was first launched in 2007 through a partnership with PediaPress.com.

Wikipedia also plans to improve the user interface for uploading images and video, and seaching multimedia.
