Foxit releases security updates for its PDF products

7 Oct 2010 | | One Comment

Foxit Corporation, a leading provider of PDF solutions, announced the release of Foxit Reader 4.2 and Foxit Phantom PDF Suite 2.2. The new versions feature enhanced security measures to address existing security vulnerabilities.

The new version include an enhanced secure digital signature validation, support for Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) and Data Execution Prevention (DEP). The ASLR uses a random algorithm to determine a memory address which can be used to store key file data. DEP prevents the execution of code from a non-executable memory location and hence, provides a safe environment for viewing PDFs.

The new version 2.2 of PDF Phantom Suite also fixes the bug which earlier led to display of wrong date and time in certain time-zones.
