Adobe Systems acknowledges another critical vulnerability in Flash Player, Reader and Acrobat products which exposes its users to malicious attacks from hackers with an intention to steal sensitive data. Adobe is expected to issue an update by 15th November to close this vulnerability.

Late last year, I tried installing Adobe Acrobat 9 on the PC where I use Windows 7. I thought it was a good combination as I didn’t experience any troubles with the basic functionalities such viewing, printing, extracting and bookmarking PDFs. It turned out that a lot of others were not as lucky as I was.

Jeremy Conway, product manager at NitroSecurity (no relation to Nitro PDF Software) has taken the weakness in PDF readers that Didier Stevens of Belgium discovered last week, and extended it to created a PDF worm that can freely wriggle its way around from PDF to PDF.

Adobe Reader + Windows 7 — Browser viewing still dead.

I’ve just loaded up the latest release candidate of Windows 7 Ultimate (version 6, build 7100) — it was an upgrade on the previous (semi-dead-like-a-slug) 32-bit Vista installation. Packed it with the latest Adobe Reader (9.1 at the time, and 42mb download) for Windows Vista. Tried my best to load a PDF online and … no change. Installing software on an unsupported operating system isn’t usually a good idea. In fact, it is quite often fraught with risk, as a lot of people found in 2006 when they tried to install software on Windows Vista that was originally been built for Windows XP and hadn’t been updated yet. Luckily — so far — it seems like it is going to be a far smoother transition from Windows Vista to Windows 7.
