Qoppa Software, a provider of PDF solutions, announced the release of new versions of its Java PDF Libraries and Java PDF Components which now include new PDF features and improved memory management and performance.

Qoppa’s new version of jPDFProcess, jPDFAssemble and jPDFNotes features Unicode support. These new Java libraries now allow editing Unicode text in Annotations and Document properties such as editing Author, Subject and Description. Unicode support is useful for working with non-latin characters such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Greek or Cyrillic characters.

New version of jPDFProcess, jPDFViewer and jPDFNotes features a new callout annotation which combines a text box with a line and an arrow for highlighting text or objects in a PDF. The new version of jPDFNotes also features a new calibration tool.

The new libraries, jPDFProcess and jPDFSecure, also feature enhanced digital signatures which can be customised for custom appearances.

For those using a Mac – you’re in luck, an anonymous blogger on www.MacOSXHints.com has shared a very quick method to enable easy integration between PDF-capable apps on iPhone, iPod and iPad devices.

The idea is to add any PDF-capable app to the PDF Services menu which then allows users to transfer the print preview of a document to another app as a PDF document.

The blogger shared this idea in context of integration between iTunes, a digital media player application and iBook 1.1, an app for viewing PDF files. The integration allows users to add PDF documents or web pages to iTunes from the iBook PDF viewer.

The method is simple to create an alias of iTunes (e.g. alias named as ‘Save PDF to iTunes) and include it in ~/Library/PDF Services on the Mac. Once this is done, next time a user is viewing a PDF document or a web page on their iBook and would like to add this document to iTunes for later reading — the user simply clicks ‘Print’ and selects ‘Save PDF to iTunes’. This launches iTunes and saves the PDF document.

Tech Soft 3D, a leading 3D component provider, announced that it has signed an agreement with Adobe Systems, Inc. to develop and distribute Adobe’s 3D SDK and associated technologies. Tech Soft 3D has been a key reseller of Adobe PDF Library SDK since 2005.

As part of this agreement, Adobe will transition development and support of its 3D SDK and related technologies, associated employees and other related resources to Tech Soft 3D. Adobe will continue to support 3D data within its applicable products, including Adobe Reader software. Tech Soft 3D will continue to develop latest CAD translators and provide it to end users as plug-ins for Adobe software for reading and producing output in 3D PDF.

Adobe’s 3D SDK consists of 3D CAD translation suite and Software development kit for PDF publishing. Adobe 3D SDK enables OEM development teams to create applications that access data from around 25 commonly used 3D file formats and translate the content into 3D PDF files based on industry-accepted standards such as PRC and U3D formats.

On completion of this transaction, Tech Soft 3D will continue to update, enhance and support 3D technologies from its development center in Lyon, France. Tech Soft 3D also plans to repackage the 3D SDK and PRC Publisher into a pure library form for easier integration with other products and applications.

Adobe has just announced the availability of the Adobe Reader Mobile SDK which will allow mobile companies to authorize their mobile phones and handheld devices to download, manage and read E-books and PDF files. The SDK enables text-reflow which is a feature deemed by E-book readers as extremely necessary for maximum reading experience. Text re-flow means that document text automatically adapts to the reader’s preferred screen size while maintaining layout integrity.

Adobe Reader Mobile SDK also supports Epub file format which will greatly enhance and speed up E-book contents online over time. In addition, the Adobe Reader Mobile SDK also provides customizable rights management which will allows publishers to set partial, temporary or permanent access to anyone they wish to give it to, as if someone is borrowing from an actual library. It’s just that they will be borrowing and reading the books using their mobile phones.
