Nuance Communications, Inc., a provider of speech and imaging solutions, today introduced the free Nuance PDF Reader, an alternative to Adobe Reader that is smaller, secure, and connects desktop PDF with cloud-based PDF-to-Microsoft Office conversion services. The free Nuance PDF Reader also enables PDF form save, annotations and Microsoft SharePoint features.

Adobe has released emergency security updates for Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat to address the critical vulnerability which has been identified in Reader 9.3 for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX, Acrobat 9.3 for Windows and Macintosh, and Reader 8.2 and Acrobat 8.2 for Windows and Macintosh. Adobe has recommended its users to update their current version of software to 9.3.1 and for the users who cannot update to 9.3.1

Nitro PDF Software today announced the release of Nitro PDF Professional OCR, the latest iteration of Nitro Pro, now available with Optical Character Recognition (OCR). Nitro Pro OCR allows users to create PDF files and recognize text from pre-existing image- or paper-based documents.

Foxit reassured its customers that its PDF reader products are virus free, and also not vulnerable to malicious PDF attacks. After extensive testing by AVG and Foxit, the problem was found to be a definition error within the AVG software.

The Libre supports Adobe’s Digital Edition software allowing Digital Rights Management (DRM) support for ePUB and PDF formats.
