World’s best bookseller, Barnes and Noble, today unleashed its new eBook reader, the Nook, which will be available by the end of next month and can read almost every file format including the most popular, PDF.

Adobe and Barnes announces further advancement for eBook distribution by joining hands to standardize the open EPUB and PDF eBooks and collaborating on a content protection standard based on Barnes & Noble and Adobe technology. Barnes and Noble will make all their content available to customers in PDF, which is one of the most compatible and secure file formats.

According to a Brad Stone blog post at the New York Times Bits blog, Amazon will introduce the next generation of its popular Kindle reader in New York City on February 9. It’s great to see that the release of the new Kindle, and other electronic reading devices, are getting so much attention at the moment. Foxit Software, famous for their Adobe Reader alternative Foxit Reader, has entered the eBook Reader race with the release of Foxit eSlick. A competively priced (US$229.99 direct, US$259.99 rrp) alternative to the Kindle and Sony Reader, eSlick uses Foxit’s PDF viewer technology to let users read PDFs on the electronic reading device.
