Foxit Corporation, a provider of e-document technology for mobile, desktop and on demand platforms, announced the release of Firmware 2.0 for its eReader device, eSlick. eSlick customers will now have the ability to view documents in ePub and eReader (PDB) in addition to earlier supported PDF and Text formats. By the end of November, all eSlick devices will come with the Firmware 2.0 pre-installed.

In a not entirely unsurprising move, Foxit Software, makers of Foxit Reader and Foxit eSlick, has released Foxit Phantom, an all-in-one PDF application aimed at business users with PDF creation, viewing, editing, conversion and security functionality.

Foxit Software, famous for their Adobe Reader alternative Foxit Reader, has entered the eBook Reader race with the release of Foxit eSlick. A competively priced (US$229.99 direct, US$259.99 rrp) alternative to the Kindle and Sony Reader, eSlick uses Foxit’s PDF viewer technology to let users read PDFs on the electronic reading device.

It’s Time To Cut Adobe Reader Some Slack

It’s a common refrain on forums and blogs: “Adobe Reader is bloatware”. Usually followed by a recommendation to use Foxit Reader on Windows or Linux and the built-in Preview feature on Mac OSX. Some of the criticism is fair; but most of it is not.

There’s a useful tip from Karl in the comments section for the post Free Online PDF Converts on how to extract text from a PDF into an Excel file, for free. I thought I’d share it with everyone:
Download Foxit Reader 2.3 from Foxit Software at http://www.foxitsoftware.com/.
1. Fire it up and open the document.
2. Activate the selection tool.
3. Highlight the table that you want to convert.
4. Copy it to the clipboard.
5. Open Notepad and paste the text.
6. Save the file and open in Excel.
7. The Text Import Wizard should display.
