Foxit has announced that it will license its industry-leading PDF and ePub technology to key players in eBook market while it will cease the development of its own eSlick Reader. This move will enable the eBook Providers to enhance digital rights management, content management and distribution on their electronic devices.

Jeremy Conway, product manager at NitroSecurity (no relation to Nitro PDF Software) has taken the weakness in PDF readers that Didier Stevens of Belgium discovered last week, and extended it to created a PDF worm that can freely wriggle its way around from PDF to PDF.

A security expert created a Proof of Concept (PoC) in which he executed an embedded executable in a test PDF file without exploiting any security vulnerabilities in PDF software. This clever mechanism could allow hackers to execute attacks through embedding rogue executables in a simple PDF files.

Vitrium Systems and Foxit Corporation announces new partnership to support Vitrium’s protectedpdf document in Foxit Reader.

Foxit Corporation, a provider of e-document technology for mobile, desktop and on demand platforms, announced the release of Firmware 2.0 for its eReader device, eSlick. eSlick customers will now have the ability to view documents in ePub and eReader (PDB) in addition to earlier supported PDF and Text formats. By the end of November, all eSlick devices will come with the Firmware 2.0 pre-installed.

Today Foxit announces the release of Foxit Reader SDK ActiveX 3.0. This updated version introduces a variety of new features along with many enhancements. Foxit Reader SDK ActiveX is an easy-to-use software component that allows developers to quickly add PDF displaying capabilities to their applications. It has a small distribution size, fast rendering speed and a rich set of built-in functions.

In a not entirely unsurprising move, Foxit Software, makers of Foxit Reader and Foxit eSlick, has released Foxit Phantom, an all-in-one PDF application aimed at business users with PDF creation, viewing, editing, conversion and security functionality.

It’s a common refrain on forums and blogs: “Adobe Reader is bloatware”. Usually followed by a recommendation to use Foxit Reader on Windows or Linux and the built-in Preview feature on Mac OSX. Some of the criticism is fair; but most of it is not.

DynamicPDF and Foxit Software have announced a partnership that will see DynamicPDF make use of Foxit Reader in their line of development products.
